He was born in Greece. When he arrived he knew no one and did not have a very good job to support himself. So he went out and made new friends and got a better job and moved out of his small one room apartment. He did this by persevering, planning everything (planning how much to spend on food and cloths, etc.), and most importantly getting good friends and a good job.
This shows that by persevering you can do whatever you want.
