penaJordan was a 10-year-old boy whose parents had been killed by the Empire when he was very young. He’d been sent to live with his aunt and uncle. His aunt and uncle wanted Jordan to stay and learn to be a farmer but Jordan did not want that at all. He wanted to become a pilot and have adventures out of this world.

Jordan was angered when his uncle told him he would have to stay another season. With his dog Joyce by his side, he quickly left his house to get something from a nearby store. On his way there, he found an envelope on the ground, which was unusual, so he picked it up.

On the front of the envelope Help was written in fancy manuscript. Out of curiosity, Jordan opened the envelope and found a letter inside.

“Oh, no!” Jordan said to his dog, “Sounds like she’s in trouble, huh, Joyce? I know a Ben Kenobi, but not an Obi Wan. Maybe Ben is related to this “Obi Wan Kenobi.” Let’s give it a try.”

Jordan and his dog set out looking for Ben. Jordan remembered that Ben lived on the outskirts of Anne Arundel County; but, the area was vast and soon they were lost. They were frightened when people started to look at them and ask if they were lost. Luckily Ben found them and told the people they were with him.

Dear Obi wan Kenobi,

Darth Failure has invaded our spaceship in search of this hyperlink. He wishes to destroy it. I write this letter to you in pure desperation. You are our only hope. Keep this hyperlink safe from the Empire: http://www.aacps.org/admin/templates/stemnews.asp?articleid=40&zoneid=5

We need more STEMi; Darth Failure is getting into the minds of our men with procrastination. They are not strong enough, he was taught in the ways of the STEMi and is very smart.

Sincerely,
Princess Leia

“Come,” he told Jordan, “Tell me what brings you here.”

“Oh, umm, actually, we were looking for you,” Jordan said, “We have something of yours.”

He shuffled through his pant pockets until he found the crumpled up paper. “Here, we thought you might know Obi Wan,” Jordan said sheepishly.

“Obi Wan,” Ben whispered to himself, “It’s been a long time since I heard that name.” He smiled. “I am the Obi Wan you seek.”

“OH, great. Good luck getting more STEMi. Bye, see you around.” Jordan got up to leave.

“Where do you think you’re going, Jordan? An adventure awaits you. You will be one of the first STEMi. You must not avoid it.” Obi Wan said.

Jordan stammered, “I need to go home and isn’t the STEM school a high school? I’m only in 5th grade!”

“Jordan, you are just in time. The STEM middle school opened so that the STEMi can be better trained. You must be one of them. I can foresee that you will be very good. Your teacher will be Master Yoda,” Obi Wan said. “You have reason to go, Jordan. Your parents were killed by the Dark Side; you must avenge their deaths.”

“How did you know that; who told you?”

“Where will I go Ben?” Jordan asked.

“You must travel to a planet called Earth. From there, you must find the region of Edgewater. There you will find the school of the STEMi. Good luck, Jordan.”

“Thank you, Ben,” Jordan said, and then realized he had no method of transportation to the STEM school. “Wait! How will I get there? I do not have a space cruiser and neither do my aunt and uncle.”

“Don’t worry. The STEMi school sends out spaceships to all of the neighboring planets for young STEMi to use. I am sure one will come tomorrow morning, probably in the town square.” Obi Wan replied.

“Thank you, Ben,” Jordan said as he waved goodbye.

Sure enough, the very next day, a spaceship appeared in the town square where Jordan had been waiting.

Jordan climbed aboard with what he figured were the bare essentials: his lunch, a new folder, and his book bag. He couldn’t wait for his first day of STEMi School.

“Happy am I to see young faces.” Yoda said, “Important STEMi are to the republic. You will learn here to focus and to clear our mind. Also will you learn science, technology, engineering, and math.”

Jordan’s new teacher taught them the ways to be good learners and to avoid laziness.

“If give into idling you do, join the dark side you will.” Yoda told them.

Jordan couldn’t wait to go back the next day. He would have to complete three years in this school until he could join the high school group of STEMi.
