This picture shows a leg brace meant to stabilize legs that are paralyzed, particularly because of polio. A leg brace should be able to bend so the user can walk using their knees despite being paralyzed in the legs. In this photo, the user is standing straight up, and the brace is at a slight angle to support their weight.
The photo on the right is a view of what the brace would look like if the user was sitting. The brace is meant to bend so the user can sit and walk in a more comfortable fashion. It is worn with straps that the user can fasten with Velcro around their legs.
